Ng Yu Hng

Ng Yu Hng is a London-based Singaporean composer whose music has been performed internationally, in Europe, Asia and the Middle East. His works explore musical intertextuality, where quotations and allusions from past idioms inhabit contemporary textures.

His pieces have been performed by musicians from CHROMA, Lontano, Meitar Ensemble, Hill Quartet, Philomel, and by soloists such as George Fu, Richard Uttley and Maria Marchant among others. His works were performed at numerous prestigious venues and events, including at the CEME International New Music Festival (Tel-Aviv, Israel), the IMPRINT concert series at the Esplanade (Singapore), at the the 10th Singapore Saxophone Symposium, and for the Theorbo Today Project at the Richmond and Putney Unitarian Church (London, UK). Notable recordings include his solo saxophone work, All the Things Left Unspoken, recorded by Samuel Phua in Finland and presented in the Singapore Symphonic Orchestra's Musical Soundbites series, and Commentary on John Dowland's 'Farewell', recorded by guitarist Bruno Pancek in Massy, France.

He obtained his Master's degree in Composition (Distinction) under the tutelage of Morgan Hayes at the Royal Academy of Music, supported by the Countess of Munster Musical Trust postgraduate scholarship. There, he was variously taught by Hans Abrahamsen, Eleanor Alberga OBE, Philip Cashian, Tansy Davies and Christopher Austin, among others. Previously, he studied composition under Dr. Edward Nesbit at King's College London, achieving the Purcell Prize in Music for academic excellence. During this period, he received additional tuition from the distinguished Singaporean composer Mr Phoon Yew Tien.
