Concert: The B-L Piano Duo presents Theatrum

Esplanade Recital Studio 20 August 2018 (M) 7:30 PM – 9:30 PM B-L Piano Duo (Bertram Wee and Lynette Yeo)

Music that is:

volatile and erratic. broken and unreliable. uncompromisingly physical. wildly and blindingly colourful. so quiet you hear it in your fingertips. so loud it violates your personal space. able to make you squirm. make you sweat. structurally labyrinthine, fiendishly complex. brutal yet beautiful; chaotic yet inevitable.

Music that takes our capacity to understand to its limits. Music that stares into the darkest recesses of the human psyche.

Come join us for an evening of the music we like.

Kenneth HESKETH (1968-) Three Movements from Theatrum I. Inductio II. Scurriae Solis Perfunditor III. Gyrus

Michael FINNISSY (1946-) Wild Flowers (after Blake)

Salvatore SCIARRINO (1947-) Sonata per due Pianoforti I. Veloce II. Menuet

Ernest TAY (1992-) Darkening White

Maurice RAVEL (1875-1937) arr. Gryaznov Daphnis et Chloe, suite no. 2

Formed at the Royal College of Music in 2013, the B-L Piano Duo is on a mission to play the creepiest, craziest music they can get their hands on. They have worked with world-renowned composers as diverse as David Lang and Michael Finnissy, and have also given the premieres of several pieces written for them – among them, works by fiercely original young composers like Nathanael Gubler, Amy Bryce, Ray Leung and Ernest Tay. They were winners of the prestigious Royal Over-Seas League Competition (Ensemble Category) in 2017.

Free seating.
