Ding Jian Han was born in Singapore in 1994. He started taking music lessons at the age of 9, playing the violin. He began to compose music at 16 and started studying composition formally at 21. His current compositional style draws inspiration from his varied non-musical interests and he uses these non-musical ideas and concepts to formulate new sounds and textures in his music. Recent examples of this include adapting Hollywood action film editing techniques, more specifically from the Jason Bourne series onwards, to his sextet Liman. Most recently, he has been incorporating self-created short films into his musical compositions, most noteworthy being Three Pieces in search of Myself - III. His music is also inherently influenced by his love for musical theatre.
