Call for Scores | Quarto Ensamble

Quarto Ensamble is an electric guitar quartet from Valparaíso, which seeks to interpret and disseminate works by national and international composers from the language of contemporary written and experimental music.

Quarto Ensamble is an independent group that subsists thanks to the motivation of its members to generate and interpret a new repertoire for this format. Learn more about Quarto Ensamble, its members, work and ways of contributing here.

The purpose of this call is to encourage the composition of works for the electric guitar quartet format. Likewise, the call will award one (1) musical piece with an economic incentive. This call is open to composers around the world.

This call will have a single prize of $300,000 CLP, in addition to the edition and printing of the awarded general score and the premiere and recording of the work, as well as its adequate circulation in the 2023-2024 schedule of Quarto Ensamble. In turn, the jury will be able to highlight other pieces, which will not necessarily be awarded financially, but will obtain an important assessment from the technical-musical aspect.


  • This call is open to composers from all over the world.
  • This call has no age limit.
  • The work must be unpublished, that is, it must not have been performed prior to the opening of this call, or be participating in other related competitions.
  • Participants may submit only one musical work and its minimum and maximum duration is 6 and 12 minutes, respectively.
  • Works must be composed for electric guitar quartet (instrumentation details here)
  • The works may not contain an instrumentation less or greater than the four electric guitars.
  • The general score and the parts must be duly prepared and with their page turns marked (exclusive).
  • The general score and the parts must be identified with the pseudonym of the composer.
  • The works that are not outstanding, between the first prize and the honorable mentions, will be part of the repertoire of Quarto Ensamble 2023, and may in turn be recorded and published for future record labels of the group.
  • This contest may be declared void, in this case the participating composers will be notified and published through the virtual channels Quarto Ensamble.
  • Members or former members of Quarto Ensamble may not participate in this call

Important Dates

The maximum date for sending this application will be 1 Jul 2022, 23:59 Chile time (GMT-4).

The results will be published on the group’s page, as well as through their social networks on 5 Sep 2022 (M). Presentation of the piece will be 25 Nov 2022 (F) on the International Contemporary Electric Guitar Festival (FIGEC) at Parque Cultural de Valparaíso, Valparaíso, Chile. The ensemble can make a letter of invitation to the premiere, but cannot pay for the flight tickets, hotel or other.


The process of receiving the works will be in charge of Quarto Ensamble. In turn, the jury will be made up of 3 composers to be defined from the opening of this call.
