Composers Society of Singapore

Founded in 2007, CSS is a society of Singapore composers and is the national representative for Singapore to the Asian Composers League (ACL). We exist to promote interest in Singapore’s new music scene by being a meeting point for, building awareness of and creating opportunities for professionally-trained composers in Singapore.

The Singapore Composers Festival is back on 7 June this year!

This year’s opening concert will feature an international collaboration between Singapore composers from the Composers Society of Singapore (CSS) and Korean composers from composer collective, Space for Sound. The closing concert will premiere works by young composers and mentors from the CSS Young Composers Forum, our flagship mentorship programme.

Join us for two moderated talks with the composers to get a behind-the-scenes view into the process behind the works and witness how performers and composers join hands to bring music from score to stage. Book your calendars!

Final open rehearsals for the 2025 Young Composers Forum concluded on 8 April!

Led by Cultural Medallion recipient and SYC Ensemble Singers Artistic Director, Jennifer Tham, the singers performed a score reading and rehearsed four choral works by the young composers.

With that, we are officially in the last stretch of the programme! Join us at the 2026 Singapore Composers Festival on 7 June to watch the premiere of choral works by the four young composers and their mentors, performed by the SYC Ensemble Singers!

CSS Reviews: SYC's 'the body electric'!

“Hauntingly beautiful”, “introspective” and “unapologetic” were some of the words Tan Zheng Rui, a member of the CSS writing team, used to describe this daring production by the SYC Ensemble Singers.

This concert, titled “the body electric”, is the ensemble’s legacy-memory project, celebrating the ensemble’s 60th anniversary. It featured two older works, Joyce Koh’s Nona Sensilia and Hoh Chung Shih’s Variations (on a brink), and a premiere of a new piece, the body electric by Americ Goh, Diana Soh, and SYC Artistic Director Jennifer Tham.
